When you’re in the water with a cheeky calf who just wants to show off, you never know what to expect! @britt_anytravels absolutely lost it when this baby suddenly breached—just one of the many unforgettable moments from the expedition with @oceanzentravel. Humpbacks are truly remarkable, their moods almost human-like, making every encounter unique. Whales are more than just breathtaking to witness—they play a crucial role in ocean health. But threats like ship strikes and noise pollution still endanger them. That’s why conservation efforts and creative advocacy matter. Bow Seat’s 2025 Ocean Awareness Contest invites young artists, writers, and storytellers to explore Connections to Nature: Looking Inside, Going Outside. Whales, with their resilience and intelligence, are the perfect inspiration. How will you tell their story? If you’re a young creative, our 2025 Ocean Awareness Contest is open for submissions. Winners receive cash awards up to $1,000 USD in each category and recognition. Entry is free. This probably isn’t what you have in mind when you think of “ocean ASMR.” All jokes — and weird sounds — aside, some octopuses are built for life in the intertidal zone, where water levels constantly rise and fall. When the tide is low, they squeeze into damp sand, wedge into rock crevices, and wait for the water to return. As long as they stay moist, they can survive brief exposure to air by absorbing oxygen through their skin. These adaptations help them navigate shifting tides, lurking predators, and the occasional awkward moment of being semi-exposed to the world.

Watch @cjduffie22 come to the rescue and help a manta ray escape from heavy fishing nets tangled around one of its cephalic lobes. These unique structures help rays navigate and funnel food into their mouths, but they also create a blind spot — leaving them vulnerable to accidental entanglements. While this manta ray was fortunate, many others aren’t so lucky. This is a powerful reminder of why sustainable fishing practices are vital in protecting marine life and ensuring the health of our oceans. Head to the link in our bio to take action on ocean conservation.
